Crosscare is the Social Support Agency of the Catholic Archdiocese of Dublin.

Since 1941, Crosscare has innovated and developed to meet changing needs.  The human cost of homelessness, migration, food poverty, mental health needs and other crises is seen by Crosscare daily. Crosscare raises awareness of the experience of people who use its services by linking with statutory bodies to influence positive change in policies, procedures and legislation that are adversely impacting on people.

At present, Crosscare calls for the responsible statutory agencies to:

  • Implement an immediate response to tackling the homeless crisis through further revising rent support policies and supplementary welfare allowances/emergency payments criteria for those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness

  • Restore full adult rate of Jobseeker’s Allowance and Supplementary Welfare Allowance for people under 25 years who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, have a history of leaving care or direct provision

  • Address the inconsistencies and inadequacies of aftercare provision for people leaving care

  • Remove the policy barriers facing returning emigrants who are homeless or at risk of homelessness

  • Prevent inappropriate medical discharges into homeless services by supporting the implementation of discharge protocols and through other means

  • Improve customer service matters arising in statutory services with which the migrant community links (including Department of Social Protection).

Crosscare uses a range of means to progress these calls. See http://crosscare.ie/index.php/about-us/publications for Crosscare submissions and further information on these matters.
